European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ("WEEE") Directive 1 aims at the prevention of the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment ("EEE") 2 and the recovery of such wastes so as to reduce their disposal, and seeks to improve the improve the environmental performance of all those involved in the life cycle of these products. The Directive, which is being implemented into the national laws of the 25 EU Member States, applies to firms which manufacture, sell, distribute, recycle or treat EEE, including large and small household appliances, electrical tools, and information technology and telecommunications equipment.3 recycling bin
Adaptec is bringing its products to the European market exclusively
through distributors and other business partners registered as producers according to the applicable national WEEE legislation of the different EU Member States. Correspondingly, Adaptec is committed to supporting its European business partners in complying with the applicable national WEEE legislation. For this purpose, Adaptec will in particular:
  • Clearly mark its EEE that fall under the WEEE Directive in accordance with the WEEE legislation in the relevant Member States with the "crossed out wheeled bin" logo designated by the applicable national WEEE legislation, indicating that the EEE must not be disposed of as residual waste but is to be returned to the collection points set up for proper recycling
  • Not attach the "crossed out wheeled bin" logo to such products that should not be marked under the applicable WEEE legislation in a particular Member State. Thereby, the customer or any third party is provided the reliable information that the products must not be returned to the collection points set up for proper recycling, but are to be disposed of otherwise in compliance with the applicable national law.

Adaptec will continue to monitor the implementation of the Directive in the Member States in which Adaptec sells EEE in order to comply with the applicable national laws as they enter into force and thereafter. Adaptec reserves the right to modify this Statement of Compliance and its Compliance Program as and when national implementing legislation evolves.
