XENON Systems Selects Adaptec for Post-production Film Application

XENON Systems of Melbourne, Australia provides high-performance server and storage solutions to film and post-production studios, TV stations, government organizations, and high-tech companies. Tackling a performance challenge Movie footage undergoes several steps in the production pipeline, from film editing to adding special effects and color correction. Moving and manipulating these files, which can range up to 5TB in size, presents a series of performance and budgetary challenges. The typical enterprise storage solution can deliver good performance when copying large files, but performance drops as the file gets smaller. Copying over files using Samba or NFS can take several hours. A SAN is faster but only one server can attach to a logical volume at a time. With NAS, everyone can attach to the same data, but performance is an issue. Moreover, a Tier 1 enterprise storage solution can cost $200,000 or more.
