Serial ATA II (SATA II), the successor to SATA technology for data storage, is a point-to-point connection that delivers full throughput to each storage device by allowing multiple ports to be managed by a single controller. Adaptec SATA II technology delivers data transfer rates with 3 Gb/s while also supporting 1.5 Gb/s (SATA I).

The Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 2820SA card is an eight-port controller that supports SATA or SATA II direct attached disk drives. It features the Adaptec AIC-8210 SATA RAID-on-Chip (ROC) ASIC and Adaptec RAID Code (ARC) with standard RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50, and JBOD, as well as the Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite with RAID 1E, 5EE, 6, 60, Copyback Hot Spare and optional Snapshot Backup. With the industry's most advanced feature set, the Adaptec 2820SA provides the highest level of data protection.

The Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite includes advanced RAID levels and features:

  • Hot Space (RAID 5EE)
  • Striped Mirror (RAID 1E)
  • Dual Drive Failure Protection (RAID 6, 60)
  • Copyback Hot Spare
  • Snapshot Backup (optional)
